What About Internet Spam
Internet Spam is when companies or marketeers send out unsolicited bulk e-mail. Internet system administrators have a deep rooted dislike for spam.
System administrators have gone to great lengths to cut down on spam. Your company could actually get blacklisted on SPEWS.
They consider any unsolicited e-mail as spam. Administrators will go as far as to take down a corporate website without warning.
Most terms of service in internet companies contracts, will usually leave the spammer with no recourse.
The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 allows penalties of 11,000 US dollars per violation. The European version of this act is European Privacy and Electronics Communications Regulations 2003.
If not for any other reason, this is why you must ask permission before including anyone in an e-mail marketing campaign.
Most companies using e-mail marketing will utilize a special service or special software to insure their compliance with the CAN-SPAM Act. The act was recently updated in July 2008.
This is why I strongly recommend building an opt-in list for yourself instead of buying mailing list. Your opt-in list will prove to be priceless and everyone on it would have given you their permission to e-mail them.
